New Castle Middle School Athletics

The NCMS Boys' Tennis team hosted three other teams on Saturday for match play: Centerville, Alexandria, and Eastern Hancock. Starting the day against Centerville, the doubles teams got off to a great start, but it wasn't enough to beat the Bulldogs. The #1 doubles team of Dakota Huntley and Gavin Brown bested their opponents 4-2, 4-2, capturing the first win of the season. The #2 doubles team of Nolan Riggs and Alex Aten lost in a third set tie breaker, 1-4, 4-1, (10-12), but showed promising play. For the second match of the day, New Castle overtook Alexandria 3-2. #1 singles player Collin Mahoney beat his opponent in a third set tiebreaker, 4-1, 3-5, (10-5), earning his first win of the season. The #1 doubles team of Dakota Huntley and Gavin Brown also closed out their win in a third set tiebreaker, 2-4, 4-2, (10-8). And the #2 doubles team of Nolan Riggs and Alex Aten also captured their first win of the season, battling to a 5-4, 4-3 victory. In their last match of the day, New Castle fell to Eastern Hancock. #1 singles Collin Mahoney, #1 doubles Dakota Huntley/Gavin Brown, #2 doubles Nolan Riggs/Alex Aten, and #3 singles Daniel Li all recorded games against their opponents, in what was a long day for all players. The Trojan Netters play at Mt. Vernon on Tuesday, September 2nd.
